Ward Choir on an Android phone (no PC needed) ============================================= The host app is a small Python program, so an Android phone can run it with Termux. One-time setup (about 3 minutes) 1. Install Termux from F-Droid (https://f-droid.org/packages/com.termux/). The Play Store copy is outdated. 2. Open Termux and paste this line, then press Enter: curl -fsSL https://www.wardchoir.org/android/install.sh | bash It installs Python, downloads the host app into ~/wardchoir and adds a "wardchoir" command. Each rehearsal 1. Turn on the phone's Wi-Fi hotspot (Settings -> Hotspot) so singers can join it, or join the chapel Wi-Fi. 2. Open Termux and type: wardchoir The console opens in the phone's browser. Sign in once with your wardchoir.org host account (Test User / Test123 while testing). 3. Singers scan the QR code shown on the console (or type the address). They need no app and no account. 4. To stop: go back to Termux and press Ctrl-C (Volume-down + c). Closing the Termux notification also stops it. Notes - Keep Termux running in the background during the rehearsal (it holds a wake lock so the phone does not doze). - Everything (choirs, programs, recordings, the host sign-in) is stored on the phone in ~/wardchoir/data. - Updating: run the install line again; your data is kept. - iPhone cannot run the host; an iPhone director uses the console from a phone while a PC or Android phone hosts.
